Last Tuesday a new law took effect in Massachusetts. Aimed at making travel safer during inclement weather in daylight hours, motorists must activate their headlights and taillights anytime conditions also dictate the use of windshield wipers.

In addition, lights must also be turned on if fog or low visibility prevents a driver from seeing other vehicles or pedestrians at a distance of 500 feet. And while the $5 fine won’t break your bank, the surcharge imposed by the Registry of Motor Vehicles on your license may.

This will increase the cost of your insurance for six years. At Evans and Lewis Insurance, we are always in favor of making the roadways safer so don’t forget that if your wipers are on, your headlights should be too.
